02 Oct How COVID-19 has us thinking Outside-The-Box!
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many aspects of our lives; from spending time in isolation, working from home, kids returning to school, or online learning, or simply the best way to get groceries. A lot of planning needs to be taken into consideration to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. So why should the fitness world be any different? For fitness instructors and coaches we have had to change our way of thinking. How can we run the classes our clients enjoy while keeping everyone safe and healthy?
This past winter I started to run our popular PunchFit class. This was a boxing based fitness class that incorporated partner work, running through boxing drills, body weight work, cardio and core. With all of the restrictions due to COVID-19 the class needed to be restructured. Partner work was not an option since we would be working much closer than the required 6ft distance, plus we are not able to share gloves or hand pads. So how can the class be changed yet kept interesting? For that I had to think “Outside the Box”.
Outside the Box is a fitness based class that incorporates a lot of the same fitness regimes we use in boxing without the punching exercises we all miss! For example, we can still practice our punching techniques, but we will add hand weights. This increases resistance and works the muscles, but still focuses on correct form and techniques. We can still do our body weight work, cardio and core but we can run these exercises as timed intervals as if we were boxing in a 2 minute round.
While we are still uncertain when our partner drill work can resume, everyone will be in shape and ready for when we get the green light!
